*Next Rehearsal is Wednesday 12/7 @ The Riverside Theatre located at 91 Claremont Avenue NY, NY 10027 located between Broadway and Riverside Drive at 120th Street.
There is pay parking available ( an elevator will take you into the theatre lobby) or you may park on the street. You should plan to arrive as close to 4pm as possible. We will begin with a space through, where we do a "blocking" of entrances and exits and stage positions, etc.
After the spacing rehearsal, we plan to do a run thru of show #2 and will start as close to 6pm as possible. YOung dancers should plan to be available until 8:30. If there is any way we can dismiss earlier, we will! :)
Please note: dancers should bring a quiet activity as well as something warm to wear while waiting. All dancers should come with a labeled bottle of water. This rehearsal is a technical rehearsal which means- although we'd love to run straight through without stopping, there will be moments we have to pause for technical issues i.e scene changes, sound and light cues. Please be patient and trust MCD and Theatre staff do the best we can to keep things moving. Clearly, there is a finite amount of time and some issues need to be addressed in the moment. We appreciate your patience.
You should plan to have dinner onsite however, no one may eat in the theatre, backstage or audience areas. Please note there will not be a specified dinner break. Dancers should eat when they are not dancing and must be out of costume while doing so.
Parents are not allowed to linger backstage at drop off. This is for the safety and well being of your child . We appreciate your cooperation. All dancers should sign in when entering the backstage area.
You are welcome to eat in the lobby. Phones are not allowed to be on in the house (audience) during rehearsal or especially during performance. Theatre ettiquiette dictates no texting or emailing or phone calls in the theatre. Please step outside into the lobby to take care of these things. It is dangerous, and distracting to the dancers and I promise you it is visible. If you choose to remain in the house for the tech rehearsal, please know that we need it to be quiet. Young dancers may sit and watch at the tech only as long as they go backstage in time for their next entrance.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
Finally we appreciate that there is a level of excitement and sometimes, nervousness that accompanies live performance both on the part of the dancer and the family. Please do your best to deliver your child to the theatre, rested, fed and calm. The more you can focus on how much fun they will have the better they will feel and the better they will do. My dancer needs to be places early to feel settled and calm so I always have to leave extra time. Your dancer may have that "something" as well. Please allow pleny of time for travel and parking etc., especially on Friday.
If you are running late please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at 917-302-4029.
We very much want this to continue to be a positive experience for your dancer and encourage you to generously applaud their efforts.
During performances, dancers should come to the stage door when called( accessible from the lobby) and sign in. Then, a backstage parent will escort your child to their dressing area where they should be prepared to follow the instructions of said volunteer.
There will be adults on hand to help with dressing, costume changes and hair changes if necessary. The backstage parents do not apply makeup or do party girl hair. Your dancer should arrive with those items taken care of. Dismissal will be from the same stage door location. If your young dancer is carpooling, please let me know in writing, who you are giving your permission for your child to travel with .
We are so proud of your dancers and our company! We hope you enjoy every moment.
Please email me with questions sooner than later. Things can be hectic on tech day and Cyndi and I will likely not have time to give your questions the attention required.
This production is independent of any studio we might rent rehearsal space from so, please direct all questions/concerns accordingly. There are many roles that are being rotated or shared. Please check your individual emails for any casting info re: shared roles. We will make every effort to post casting on Saturday 11/7- prior to tickets going on sale. Excessive lateness, exceeding allowed absences, or poor attitude and/or unpreparedness may result in replacement and is at the sole discretion of the artistic team.

This production comes together only because of the talent and dedication of the Ballet Mistress and Directors; Cynthia D'Angelo and Marissa Mooney-Kretzmer. You will see us together and/or separately at the rehearsals. We have many, many years of professional experience as teachers, choreographers and dancers and we look forward to sharing our experience with your dancer. We stand together in our decisions and ask that you not approach each of us with the same question. We consult each other if needed and the answer given will stand. Please be mindful that Cynthia D'Angelo and Marissa Mooney-Kretzmer also teach classes in the rehearsal space that MCD rents and that we make every effort to keep Nutcracker and studio "business" separate. Please do not approach us - even for a "quick question" while we are teaching or between classes. Also, because we put this production together in such a short amount of time- every moment of rehearsal day is needed for rehearsal. We will not be able to give your questions the attention they may need if you try to ask us between rehearsals and simply ask that you don't. You will get a much more clear and complete answer if you utilize email or telephone for questions. Concerns should be voiced by phone or by appointment in person. Please direct all such calls to Marissa Mooney-Kretzmer at 917-302-4029. You may call Marissa M-F between 9 am and 3pm and your call will be returned as soon as possible. Barring an emergency, we are unavailable on Sundays. You may email questions at anytime but please do not use this avenue for things that are better suited for discussion.
Are an invaluable part of our show and have danced on many occasions for many different reasons ranging from illness to injury to bad weather, etc. Before accepting an understudy opportunity, the dancer and parent should fully understand what that entails. Understudies are not guaranteed to perform. Understudies are expected to attend all rehearsals and to learn the part assigned. They should not expect private rehearsal time or even "equal" rehearsal time in the studio. They should be dancing during the rehearsal on the sides or in the back of the room for spacing purposes. They should be ready to jump in if someone is absent at rehearsal, etc. They should choose a specific dancer/place in the dance to focus on learning if they are not assigned one. Once secure, they may absolutely learn another dancer/place in the dance. It is helpful to learn a dancer from each side. If your dancer has a primary part and has an opportunity to understudy an additional role, they should focus on their primary role first. If in such a position and rehearsals conflict, dancers are to attend the primary role rehearsal.
We are on a tight schedule and expect to move forward each week. Please arrive on time and ready to dance. Dancers must be in appropriate ballet attire with their hair up and off of the face. Moving forward for our purposes means that dancers must review material between rehearsals. Music can be made available to you and once the material is set, videos are posted to the website that is password secure. We recommend that dancers 9 and up keep a notebook in their dance bag to record notes given, changes made, etc. Should your dancer require extra rehearsal time, and if we are able to accommodate your request, the parent (s) will be responsible to cover the cost for rehearsal time and space. All dancers should review available videos between rehearsals!!!
Absences & Return Protocol:
Sufficient notice needs to be given for absences barring emergency/illness. 24 hours is not sufficient. There is only 1 excused absence for this production- as we are limited to 10 weeks this season. Dancers are responsible to make up missed material before the next rehearsal. MCD can neither "go back" in the material nor are we available for private sessions to teach material missed. Dancers who are absent should expect to see that an understudy has learned the absentee's role in the dance in their absence. You may be asked to observe the missed material with the understudy in place the first time (or few) during the next rehearsal. The proper protocol would be for the absent dancer to be up on their feet learning or reviewing missed material on the sides or in the back of the room until they are ready to "go back in."
Forms: will be provided throughout the season. Please do your best to get them back to us in a timely manner.
Fees: There is a non- refundable production fee of $100 applicable per dancer. Please make checks out to: Cash or MCD. A costume fee per dancer will also be collected for all dancers with the exception of Party Children providing their own party dress*. You may submit both fees in one payment if you'd like. If you would like your Party Child to wear a dress that is the property of MCD, the 10.00 fee would apply.
Fees are due at the first rehearsal. Fees that remain outstanding as of 10/5 will be subject to a late fee of 10.00 per week. Dancers with outstanding fees or forms will not be permitted to participate in the production.
Dismissal: Excessive absences or lateness, poor attitude &/or behavior or lack of effort may result in replacement.
MCD Shirts: You can purchase one at the show in the lobby or in the studio a week or two prior to the performance and throughout the run of the show.
Tickets:Available approximately 1 month prior to show opening. You may visit the Riverside Theatre website or cal the box office at the theatre. The box office hours are Thursday & Friday 4-8 and Saturday & Sunday from 12-4. 212-870-6784
