FAQ's:

What does it mean to audition?
An audition is basically a try out. Your dancer will audition in a group and will be asked to demonstrate several dance combinations or steps. We will be evaluating technique, ability to learn material and performance. If you are unfamiliar with or new to dance auditions, they are most like an orchestra or varsity try out.  The directors and ballet mistress decide on the casting.  It is not uncommon for a dancer to repeat roles several seasons in a row.

Who can audition?
We welcome dancers to audition from any studio as long as they meet the age and experience requirements.

Does my child have to take or have taken ballet ?
Yes. Your dancer should have a year of ballet before auditioning and must currently be enrolled in a weekly ballet class at any studio.

Does everyone get a part?
No, there are a finite number of roles. Auditioning does not guarantee a part in the production, nor does prior participation. In some age groups, we have more dancers auditioning than parts available and/or some dancers need more training.

What if my child is not cast this year?
We encourage your dancer to enjoy this years classes, observe a performance to gain insight as to what is needed to participate and to try again next year!

What if my child wants a different role?
The dancer/parent may absolutely decline a role, but another role will not be offered.

When/how will we know about casting?
Casting will be posted on the website no later than 6pm on October 1st. An email will be sent to the address provided on your registration form to let you know when casting is posted. Please print clearly.

What is the commitment?
The commitment is nine  Saturday afternoon rehearsals beginning between the hours of 11 and 4pm with additional Sunday rehearsals possible if needed. Rehearsals begin Saturday, September 28th. The week of the shows, there will be one technical rehearsal at the theatre in NYC between 4 & 9pm on Wednesday, 12/4.

When/where are rehearsals?
Most rehearsals will be held at the Armonk Ctr. for Dance located at 28 Kaysal Ct. Armonk, NY
Children's Rehearsal Dates are as follows:
September: 28th
October:   5th, 12th, 19th & 26th
November:  2nd, 9th* & 17th*, 23rd* (30th TBD)
December: 4th* in NYC @ The Riverside Theatre
* Mandatory Rehearsal- No Absences, No Exceptions

How will I know what time rehearsal is each week?
It is the responsibility of the dancer and the parent to check the rehearsal schedule on the website weekly. It is usually posted on Wednesday.
You probably will not have the same schedule each week. Once the material is set, we look each week at what needs more or less time and adjust the schedule accordingly.  You will always get an email or see an update on FB to know when the website has been updated. Please consider "liking" us on  FB and/or follow us on Instagram to get the most up -to-date info.

What if I have a question?
All questions should be directed to Marissa Mooney at mcdnutcracker@gmail.com or 917-302-4029.Please do not contact Armonk Dance with Nutcracker questions. We rent rehearsal space from ACD and they will not be able to answer your questions. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.

How much does it cost?
There is a non- refundable production fee of $125 applicable per dancer. A $15 costume fee per dancer will also be collected for all dancers with the exception of Party Children providing their own party dress*. There is a $10 Audition fee.

What if I/my child has a conflict?
Please note any and all conflicts on your registration form regarding days and/or times. Having more than one conflict may affect casting, as we have a large number of children and professionals schedules to coordinate and a very short amount of time to produce our show.

What is expected of the dancers between rehearsals?
We expect that your dancer will review their material in whatever way is most appropriate for their learning style and /or age. Some dancers need assistance reviewing material. Others can do it independently. Videos and music are available on  our website  for most parts, most weeks, once a portion of the material is set. Dancers must come to rehearsals ready to move forward.  We are on a tight schedule and do not have the luxury of  a lot of time to review. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. The dancers have a better overall experience and more self confidence when they come prepared!
